    As a Professional School Counselor, I work with students on an individual basis, in small groups, and in their classrooms. The focus of the counseling program is on academic skills, career awareness, and personal/social skills. I also attend parent-teacher conferences at the request of the parent/guardian or teacher, as my schedule allows.

    Here are just a few services provided by the Counseling Program:

    • Various classrooms presentation based on a school-wide needs assessment and data
    • College and Career Readiness 
    • High School Preparedness
    • Coaching Sessions for goal setting

    Garfield STEM staff believe that all middle school students need:

    • A safe and positive learning environment
    • The support of positive, caring adults
    • Support and coaching in making concrete and compounded decisions
    • Assistance in understanding more about themselves during the transition period
    • Skills to deal with academic pressures and figuring out their future plans

    In partnership with students, teachers, families, our leadership team and the community, Garfield STEM Counselor supports and advocates for the academic, college and career readiness and social/emotional success of all our students as we are Engineering the Future. 

    School Counselors do not do long term counseling/therapy

    Albuquerque Public Schools and the APS Counseling Department does not endorse any specific resource.  The district is not financially responsible for any services obtained by using this information. Following is a partial list of mental health providers that may help you. You may also choose to consult with your Physician or access your health insurance for additional information.
